C. calcaricarens is a medium sized chameleon with a total length to 12 inches. It inhabits the lower levels and floor of savannahs and dry forests of Somalia, Ethiopia, Eritrea and Djibouti. Formerly considered a subspecies of C. africanus (q.v.), male C. calcaricarens lack the tarsal spurs seen in male C. africanus.
